The firm designed a headquarters addition and dispatch
center for the Halesite Fire District. An existing three-story stair
tower that had numerous settlement problems needed to be replaced
by a new three-story structure with elevator, open staircase, storage
rooms, ready room and commissioner's office. Additionally, the dispatch
center had been cramped and outdated, requiring extensive renovations.
The space available for the addition formed an irregular floor plan
arrangement. However, the firm provided a new layout that now features
expansive views of the harbor front for the office areas and organized
the elevator, stairways and storage spaces within the core of the
addition. This allowed the perimeter walls to have large glazing areas.
The relocated dispatch center provides observations of the entire
front ramp during calls. The new additions used a similar design and
windows, and as a result the firehouse structure has a harmonious
appearance throughout. The interior of the addition has abundant natural
daylight and spectacular views. |
