This project involved a historic headquarters restoration
and facility upgrade. At the outset of the project there was opposition
by the local Historic Preservation Commission to the design that would
create a two-story addition to match the existing 1960s style firehouse.
The commission wanted a return to the historic character of the Main
Street and the original 1890s firehouse for the overall redesign of
the building. The firm conducted a historical survey of the village
in conjunction with the preparation of scale models and study of archived
photos. A new and more appropriate architectural design for the headquarters
was created. The design reflected a historically accurate façade,
window sizes, ornamentation and roof cornice that met all the local
requirements. The project was completed, and the community now has
a fully modernized facility with appropriate historic details bringing
this waterfront village Main Street back to its earlier elegance. |
