The firm was retained to design and engineer a
new fire district maintenance building and new training tower that
would be both economically and structurally efficient. The building
is a pre-engineered metal open span structure, allowing full maintenance
programs with lift and high ceiling. The training structure is made
of galvanized steel to minimize upkeep from hose tests and to withstand
multiple training activities. Both structures utilize similar color
schemes and materials to match the chief's office onsite. Although
the new structures are massive at 34 feet in height, careful planning
and placement on the site eliminated the concern that neighborhood
residents might object to the view from the street. The state-of-the-art
maintenance shop provides ample room for truck and material lifts,
tools, a repair shop, machinery area, storage rooms and mezzanine
for total fleet maintenance programs. The training tower is used for
multiple training activities including laddering, rappelling, forced-entry
doors, standpipe and sprinkler connections and stairwell exercises.
The Wantagh Fire District achieved its goal and provided a facility
that does not detract from the neighborhood's appearance. |
